Shahnaaz Benazir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Cotton University. She graduated from erstwhile Cotton College with Economics Major (BSc) in 1990. She obtained her Post Graduate Degree in Economics securing First-class Second position from Gauhati University in 1995 with specialisation in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics. She joined the Department of Economics, Cotton College in October 1995.

She teaches Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Statistics, International Economics and Development Economics both at UG and PG levels at Cotton University.  She has published a few research articles and co- edited a book on Violence and Discrimination against Women in India: Various Facets and Innovative Strategies.

Shahnaaz Benazir is assigned with various responsibilities in the University. She is Department Representative of Cotton College Teachers' Cooperative Society and of Cotton College Women's Forum, Cotton University. She was a member of the Examination Branch from 2015 to 2018. She was invited as subject expert by the Staff Selection Commission. She was also a member of the committee formed by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council for preparation of detailed syllabus of Economics for Classes 11 and 12.
